Divine Kangami
Economics, Librarian
Among the interest that have constituted the driving force in Kangami’s life has being a fascination with the trends of rapidly growing globalization. The liberalization of domestic markets and the reduction of barriers to trade that have accompanied this process have substantially increases the complexity of these activities. This interest informed his decision to study Economics and Business in high school and to pursue a career in Economics and Management in college. He then obtained a Bachelors and Honours Degree in Economics at the University of Buea, Cameroon.
After graduating with a BSc in Economics (2002), he was employed as the manager of a photographic printing laboratory; he managed to grow the firm from three to fifteen employees in less than two years. He served this firm as the manager for four years and in later part of 2005, he realised that this day’s local and international firms and organizations do not merely need specialists who are acquainted with the latest techniques, they are looking for graduates and professionals who can use these techniques and tools to manage and analyse economics and business information resources. That is why he decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Economics specializing in “International Trade and Investment.” It was aimed at exploring how one can initiate and manage change in this complex economic sphere.
His previous appointment before joining African Leadership Academy has been a professional tutor in Economics, in the department of Economics at University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. With the passion to apply some of the principles and theories in Economics, he therefore got a part-time job as a research assistant to the Head of Department, Economics (UWC). In December, 2007, in the same department of Economics, he was employed as a lecturer in Economics. He taught undergraduate Economics.
At African Leadership Academy, he teaches CIE A-Level Economics and is the head of the school library. Of valuable importance has been the position he held as research officer while pursuing his Honours Degree. It has motivated him to do a lot of research and to work as a volunteer with some local NGOs that aim to ameliorate the living conditions of the poor. This growing process has being made easier by the interest and knowledge he has in computer software packages often needed for research support. Divine owes his success so far to a natural drive of utmost dedication to his work and continue self improvement.
